The Images.....
The photographs offered are from
the personal collection of Joe Galloway and were taken at LZ X-Ray during and
after the action in the Ia Drang Valley, November 14-16, 1965. The images
reflect the savagery of the combat, a feel for the emotions of the soldiers
involved and a sense for the terrain in which the battle was fought. The
photographs have never before been published and most have been seen only by a
handful of participants in the action. These images will help put a real face
on the people, places and events in the upcoming movie, "We Were Soldiers
", starring Mel Gibson. A film based on the book, "We Were Soldiers
Once....and Young" by Lt. Gen. Hal Moore and Joe. View many of the
soldiers as they are today at the

The photographs were originally
taken by Joe using a Nikon F 35mm. camera and processed as color negatives. To
insure that age has not diminished the quality of the images they are being
digitally restored to their original color correctness. Using digital
techniques, the resolution size of the image can be increased to insure that
the print is of the highest quality, clarity and sharpness. The digital image
is then printed using the Fuji Frontier system that prints the photograph as if
it were a 35mm. negative, resulting in a work that is not only beautiful, but
has the archival qualities of any fine art photographic print.
The image will be printed on fine
art quality photographic paper and includes a mat which contains Joe's
signature. The mat bears a special foil stamped inscription reading, "We
Were Soldiers, November 1965."The prints can be ordered in the original color or printed in
black&white. For size and pricing information, please visit the
"Order" page.
